What Would Dolly Do When It Comes To Beauty, Confidence & Growing Older

You don't have to look like everybody else to be beautiful.

Last September, I took a little trip to Dollywood. September 3, 2025, to be exact.

I stayed at HeartSong Lodge & Resort, spent time at Dollywood, and got to experience a little bit of the world Dolly Parton created in the Smoky Mountains. It was beautiful, warm, welcoming, and unmistakably Dolly.

One year ago, I found myself standing right here at the entrance to HeartSong Lodge & Resort at Dollywood.

At the time, I was simply enjoying the trip. But looking back now, with Dolly's passing just days ago, I've found myself thinking about her in a completely different way.

Dolly Parton spent her entire life being unapologetically Dolly.

The big hair.

The rhinestones.

The eyelashes.

The makeup.

The glamorous clothes.

The confidence.

And perhaps most importantly, she never seemed interested in apologizing for any of it.

She understood something that I think many women spend years learning:

Beauty isn't about looking like everyone else. It's about feeling comfortable being yourself.

Beauty Doesn't Have an Expiration Date

One of the things I've always admired about Dolly is that she never seemed afraid of getting older.

She didn't pretend she wasn't aging.

She simply continued taking care of herself and presenting herself the way she wanted to.

Dolly was famously open about her beauty choices, from wigs and makeup to cosmetic procedures. She also talked openly about the work that went into maintaining her appearance. Recent reflections on her beauty philosophy have highlighted that honesty—she never tried to sell the idea that her look simply happened by accident.

And I actually love that.

Because there's a difference between trying to look 25 forever and wanting to look like the best version of yourself at whatever age you are.

That's something I believe strongly in my treatment room.

I'm not here to make you look like someone else.

I'm here to help you take care of the skin you have.

Taking Care of Your Skin Isn't Vanity

This is something I wish more women understood.

Taking care of your skin isn't frivolous.

It isn't shallow.

And you don't have to apologize for wanting to look beautiful.

There is something really special about taking an hour for yourself, putting your phone away, lying down, closing your eyes, and letting someone take care of you for a change.

Maybe that's a facial.

Maybe it's getting your hair done.

Maybe it's putting on your favorite lipstick.

Maybe it's simply getting dressed in something that makes you feel pretty.

Whatever it is, you are allowed to care about how you feel in your own skin.

And yes, I think Dolly would approve of a little glamour.

You Don't Have to Look Like Everyone Else

One of Dolly's most enduring messages was individuality.

She never tried to fit into somebody else's idea of what she should look like.

And honestly? Neither should you.

Maybe you're a full-glam girl.

Maybe you're a mascara-and-lip-balm girl.

Maybe you love getting dressed up.

Maybe you live in jeans and boots.

Maybe you're 25.

Maybe you're 55.

Maybe you're 75.

Your beauty doesn't have to fit into somebody else's definition.

Your skin doesn't need to be perfect to be beautiful.

It just deserves to be cared for.

What This Means in My Treatment Room

This is one of the reasons I love customized facials so much.

Your skin has its own story.

Your lifestyle, age, environment, hormones, stress, sun exposure, skincare routine, and even the season we're in can all affect what your skin needs.

That's why I don't believe in handing everyone the exact same facial.

Sometimes your skin needs exfoliation.

Sometimes it needs hydration.

Sometimes it needs calming.

Sometimes it needs a little extra brightening.

And sometimes, honestly, you just need an hour to be still.

I'll help you figure out which one it is.

A Little More Dolly, A Little Less Comparison

One thing I've taken away from Dolly's life is that confidence doesn't necessarily mean believing you're perfect.

It can simply mean being comfortable enough to say:

This is who I am. This is how I like to look. This is how I want to feel. And I'm not going to apologize for it.

That's a beautiful thing.

And perhaps that's what timeless beauty really is.

Not trying to stop the clock.

Not chasing every trend.

Not comparing yourself to the woman next to you—or the woman on your phone.

It's taking good care of yourself, embracing the woman you are today, and letting a little bit of your personality shine through.

Come Get Your Dolly-Inspired Glow

So, one year after my trip to Dollywood, I'm looking at those photos a little differently.

I remember the mountains.

The beautiful HeartSong Lodge.

The country charm.

The music.

The sparkle.

And now, more than anything, I think about a woman who spent her life reminding people that it's okay to be exactly who God created you to be.

And that's something worth carrying with us.

So whether you're a little bit rhinestone or a little bit ranch…

A little bit glam or a little bit simple…

I hope you'll remember to take care of yourself.

Because timeless beauty isn't about looking younger.

It's about looking like you—well cared for, confident, and comfortable in your own skin.

And if your skin could use a little Ranchette love, I'd be honored to take care of it! i
